# Claude

Add pdf-mcp as a remote connector to create and work with PDFs in Claude. You need a [pdf-mcp account](https://app.pdf-mcp.io) and access to custom connectors in Claude.

## Connect

[Open Claude connectors](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors)

1. Open **Customize → Connectors** in Claude.
2. Select **+ → Add custom connector** and name it `pdf-mcp`.
3. Paste this remote MCP server URL:

   ```text
   https://api.pdf-mcp.io/mcp
   ```

4. Select **Add**, then **Connect**.
5. Sign in to pdf-mcp in your browser, select your workspace, and approve access.
6. Open a chat and enable pdf-mcp under **+ → Connectors**.

For Team or Enterprise workspaces, an owner may need to add the connector for the organization first. See Anthropic's [custom connector guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-get-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp) for availability and organization settings.

This opens Claude's connector settings; you still add the URL and authorize the connection. Remote connectors are managed in Claude settings. The `claude_desktop_config.json` file is for local servers.

## Try it

With the connector enabled, ask:

> Use pdf-mcp to create a one-page PDF titled “Hello from Claude”. Store it and return the browser view link.

The tool returns a link to the stored PDF. Generation uses your connected workspace's [credits](https://pdf-mcp.io/credits).

## Troubleshooting

- **No Add custom connector option:** Check your Claude plan and workspace permissions.
- **Connected but unused:** Enable pdf-mcp for the current conversation and name the tool in your request.
- **Client ID requested:** Automatic registration normally handles setup. If your organization requires fixed credentials, follow [manual OAuth registration](https://pdf-mcp.io/docs/authentication#when-to-create-an-oauth-app).

For the terminal client, follow [Claude Code](https://pdf-mcp.io/docs/mcp-client-claude-code). For shared connection errors, see [MCP troubleshooting](https://pdf-mcp.io/docs/mcp-server#troubleshooting).
